Mustangs, Falcons record wins

GARDEN CITY, New York - Sept. 8 - Monroe scored 10 unanswered fourth-quarter points as the Mustangs rallied for a 17-14 win over Nassau at Mitchel Field.

After Nassau, which received votes in the NJCAA poll, took a 14-7 lead, Jalen Brown tied the game with a 61-yard touchdown run.

Monroe (2-0) then forced Nassau to punt. When the Mustangs' drive stalled, Diogo Alves Dos Santos Pereira made a 42-yard field goal for a 17-14 lead.

The Mustangs' Jahvaron Burks intercepted a Nassau pass to stop one drive but Monroe was forced to punt with 1:07 remaining. Nassau had a chance to win the game but Qudair Sims knocked down a pass to end the game.

Brown, the reigning NEFC Offensive Player of the Week, got Monroe on the scoreboard with a three-yard pass to Nyjaliek Williams for a 7-0 lead. Brown completed 11-of-21 passes for Monroe for 91 yards to go with 20 carries for 89 rushing yards.

Zaire Jones rushed 23 times for 102 yards. Grant Melton and Rashon McNeil made 11 and 10 tackles, respectively.

The Mustangs play Louisburg, which was ranked No. 19 in the NJCAA preseason poll, Sept. 15 in Louisburg, North Carolina, at 1 p.m.

Lackawanna 48, Wagner JV 6

STATEN ISLAND, New York - Sept. 9 - No. 16 Lackawanna scored 35-straight points in the first half and rolled to a 48-6 win over Wagner JV Sunday. The Falcons (2-0) scored four times in the air—Shane McLaughlin threw two touchdowns in the first half while Ryan Schumacher threw two scoring passes in the second half.

The Falcons got rushing touchdowns from Rashard Jackson, Reggie Jean-Charles and Calvin Bell.

Lackawanna is at Doylestown, Pennsylvania, Sept. 16 when it plays the Delaware Valley College JV at 11 a.m.
