NEFC names all-conference teams
Nov. 27, 2019 - After leading Lackawanna to its fourth Northeast Football Conference title in five years and the NJCAA Championship game, head coach Mark Duda was named the conference's coach of the year for the sixth time overall and fourth time in five years. Duda has won 187 games in 26 seasons to rank sixth among all NJCAA football coaches for wins.
Lackawanna defensive back Ji'Ayir Brown and ASA defensive tackle Durrell Johnson are the lone repeat selections from 2018. Brown is a first-team pick for the second-straight season while Johnson moves from the second team in 2018 to the first team in 2019.
In voting by the coaches and other followers of NJCAA football, Monroe quarterback Dominique Shoffner was named the NEFC Offensive Player of the Year and Brown was named the NEFC Defensive Player of the Year.
Shoffner, a three-time NEFC Offensive Player of the Week, and the Mustangs will play in the Salt City Bowl Dec. 7. Here is where Shoffner already ranks in the NEFC single-season rankings:
- 269.3 yards in total offense per game;
- total offense yards, 2,693;
- 2,035 passing yards and 26 passing touchdowns;
- 14 rushing touchdowns, 331 total offense plays and 152 completions;
- pass efficiency rating, 172.8, and pass attempts, 245;
- 62.0% completion rate and 14 touchdowns;
- 84 points.
Brown, who has verbally committed to continuing his college career at Penn State, was named a NJCAA Defensive Player of the Week Oct. 16. He has been named NEFC Defensive Player of the Week twice in his career. Brown and the No. 2 Falcons play on No. 1 Mississippi Gulf Coast Dec. 5.
