Lackawanna tops ASA; Monroe stays unbeaten

Oct. 5, 2019 - No. 5 Lackawanna used a fourth-quarter rally to win the Northeast Football Conference opener against ASA and No. 8 Monroe picked up a 53-6 win over the Valley Forge Military Academy. Here is a quick look at the results:

No. 5 Lackawanna 17, ASA 10

BROOKLYN, New York - No. 5 Lackawanna scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns to record a 17-10 win over ASA in the Northeast Football Conference opener for both programs. The Falcons have now won 17 consecutive games, starting with a 41-34 win over No. 11 Georgia Military College, Nov. 12, 2017.

Scoring opportunities were few and far between in the first half at the Aviator Sports Complex. After ASA had a field goal blocked, the first half's only score came when Lackawanna's Cameron Ceccotti made a 38-yard field goal with 8:51 remaining.

ASA then scored the game's next 10 points for a 10-3 lead after three quarters. After ASA's touchdown, Lackawanna's Quentin Sanders returned the ensuing kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown to tie the game. Falcons' QB Matt Cavallaro connected with Norval Black for a 60-yard touchdown to take a 17-10 lead. Teron Haley led Lackawanna with 11 tackles while KeShaun Moore recorded seven.

No. 8 Monroe 53, Valley Forge Military Academy 6
NEW ROCHELLE, New York - Dominique Shoffner and Clayton Scott each ran for three touchdowns as No. 8 Monroe improved to 5-0 with the 53-6 win over the Valley Forge Military Academy at Joseph F. Fosina Field.

Shoffner ran for 101 yards and threw for 201 yards while Jevin Frett caught five passes for 122 yards and a touchdown.

Scott and Shoffner each ran for touchdowns in the first quarter before Scott added two more scores in the second quarter. Shoffner added a 23-yard rushing touchdown for a 33-0 halftime lead.

The Mustangs ran for 287 yards.

Monroe will host Lackawanna in a 6 p.m. game Oct. 12 at Joseph F. Fosina Field.
