Lackawanna wins NEFC title

Oct. 12, 2019 - NEW ROCHELLE, New York - No. 3 Lackawanna opened a 17-7 first-quarter lead and never looked back in its 30-17 win over No. 7 Monroe at Joseph F. Fosina Field Saturday. Lackawanna extended the NJCAA's longest active win streak to 18 games.

After Monroe (5-1) took a 7-3 lead on a touchdown pass from Dominique Shoffner to Halim Dixon-Kim, Lackawanna's Delvin Palmer returned the kickoff 91 yards for a score. The Falcons (6-0) then scored on a touchdown pass from Matt Cavallaro to Sameer Parks for a 17-7 lead. Lackawanna led 17-10 at halftime.

After a Lackawanna field goal, Monroe's Clayton Scott scored on a 2-yard run to bring the Mustangs within three, 20-17. Cavallaro and Parks connected for a 15-yard TD to cap an eight-play drive for a 27-17 lead. Cameron Cecotti made his third field goal to make it 30-17.

Cavallaro threw for 123 yards and the two scores while Shoffner threw for 129 yards and a touchdown. Shoffner led the Mustangs with 50 rushing yards while Rashard Jackson led Lackawanna with 85 rushing yards. The Falcons' Ja'yir Brown, who made five solo tackles, had two interceptions as did Monroe's Emmanuel Appiah-Tahkyi. Appiah-Tahkyi entered the game tied for the NJCAA's lead in interceptions.

Monroe Notes: Appiah-Takyi, who had already set the Mustangs' career interceptions record, set a single-season record as well with two interceptions in Saturday's contest to reach seven. Scott picked up his 10th rushing touchdown of the year, breaking the record of nine set by All-American Ryan Fulse in 2016.

Oct. 11, 2019 - WEST POINT, New York - Johntae McDowell threw three touchdown passes and ran for another score as ASA improved to 5-2 with a 42-28 win over Army Prep. McDowell finished with 218 passing yards while Kaedin Robinson caught five receptions for 152 yards and two touchdowns.
